There’s an old saying in the ofteninfuriating pastime we Scots long ago bequeathed to the world: “love the game, hate the people.” Now, “hate” is a strong word, as my deardeparted granny used to tell me. But never has our rather cynical aphorism been more appropriate than it is right now, at least where professional golf is concerned.
Here’s another axiom, this time from the Dalai Lama: “Greed robs us of our ability to appreciate the simple joys in life.”
