‘Tangled crisis’ spans Middle East

Gunfire and air strikes shook Gaza’s city of Khan Yunis yesterday, witnesses said as Israel pressed on with its southward push against Hamas militants.

The Palestinian Red Crescent reported intense artillery fire near the city’s Al-Amal Hospital, while the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza said 77 people were killed and dozens wounded overnight.

The UN said yesterday that thousands of babies had been born in conditions “beyond belief” in Gaza since the war there erupted more than three months ago.
