The project
Here we are modelling the KCC container cement wagons with 11' 6” wheelbase. Unfortunately, there is not much information or photographs available on these wagons, so for a few of the fittings on the wagons for the containers, I have had to scale the dimensions from photographs.
However, from the following detailed steps, these are quite simple conversions.
To begin
Follow the instructions in the SEM I / IA 11' 6” open wagon kit but with the following changes:
Step (1) Remove both doors (for variation one, doors removed) on each of the wagon sides
This is achieved by using a North West Short Line 'Chopper'. Alternatively, a sharp craft knife with a No.11 blade can be used.
(a) Ensure you cut off the doors immediately behind the raised framing to leave the two hinges on the top and bottom of both remaining ends. Clean up with some light filing if required, and set these aside, see Photos 22 and 23.
(b) From the removed doors in the bottom middle, remove the two small 'Stanchion brackets' using a craft knife, see Photo 23. Ensure that you retain a very thin slither of plastic on the top of the two stanchion brackets, this will keep the stanchion brackets together and in the right place. This will make it easier to re attach the stanchion brackets to the wagon later.
