Locating celestial objects through a telescope eyepiece can be surprisingly difficult. The magnification and relatively narrow field of view make it all too easy to miss your target as you move the telescope across the sky. However, a finderscope or a red dot finder can help enormously, as the first has a low magnification while the second has zero magnification, so both have a wide field of view.
