In the pricing section at the back of the March 2022 issue of CAR, the list of models Ford Motor Company of South Africa sold here comprised a seventh-generation Fiesta, a budget-friendly Figo and the still popular-despite-its-age EcoSport compact SUV.
Less than one year later, this portfolio had shrunk to include the Ranger bakkie range, its Everest SUV derivative and the Mustang. While this trio continues to sell remarkably well, in a market that grew up with Blue Oval cars like the Cortina, Sierra, Mondeo and Focus, the absence of passenger cars is remarkable.
