Co Limerick, Kilmeedy, Ireland
THEY take no prisoners with the Co Limerick Foxhounds; one of the great old English packs, hunting a fearsome bank and ditch country, with a consummate professional carrying the horn and some of Ireland’s best horsemen and women following. You venture into Limerick with a good horse and a hardened heart or you don’t go at all.
Fergus Stokes has hunted the Limerick hounds since 2012. A plain-spoken Cork man, he cut his teeth in the Duhallow country, where he whipped-in to the late Ger Withers.
“We were great friends,” he says of Ger. “He was always great for advice when I started.”
