Stitching an heirloom Re: Michelle Patient’s article (FT December 2023), ‘Samplers’.

I have researched my family history for 40 plus years and have got a lot of information but I have never found a sampler that relates to the family.

So I thought that I would do one myself to include myself and my wife, our two sons and their wives and our four grandchildren in the Victorian style but with modern symbols to represent our lives.

But where to start? I am 72 and enjoy many crafts but I know nothing about embroidery design etc. Do you know of any books or other references that would help me? Information about the materials to use and how to go about it would be great.
