The term adrenaline junkie is ʻused to describe a person who feels a compulsion to take part in exciting, dangerous, or intense activitiesʼ. Based on that, I am most certainly not an adrenaline junkie. I would describe myself as a cautious adventurer.

I have never felt the urge to jump out of a plane high above the clouds and hurtle towards the earth, hoping the parachute on my back would work with the swift tug of a cord. And hearing of a malfunction a friend of mine experienced doing just that – she landed on the roof of a house and ended up in the homeownerʼs tree – I am not inclined to try anything of the sort. True, my friend walked away with only a few scratches and bruises and was invited inside for a lovely cup of tea … but still!

That said, there was also a stage in my life when I thought I would never willingly step off a bridge while strapped
