Boat International

EDITOR'S LETTER

have watched Below Deck, I confess. Not a huge amount of it, but I knocked off a few seasons of the sailingyacht version during various Covid lockdowns. It's ambient TV - something. This ia whole other level down. and a show not really about yachts at all, but about commission-crazed people being horrible to each other. We write about both this month, and there remains a fairly even split among those I talk to about whetber they're helpful or harmful to the industry. Shows like these stir strong emotions becauae we're locked in a battle for the image of this industry, and those of us dedicated to its future are committed to showing it in the right way. The Supezyacht Life Foundation thinks similarly and has launched World Boating Day, which will take place on 24-25 May. I'm hoping a big part of its pitch is the incredible story of hydrotreated vegetable oil(page 140). The owners and captains embracing this new fuel, which can dramatically cut emissions, have to be applauded. As well as our Ocean Awards, Ocean Talks and other events presenting the best of this business, we're making futher moves news on that to come. In the meantime, I wish you all a very happy new year and many joyful days on the water with your families in 2024.
