Best colour laser printers of 2024 for a great home printing setup

So, who likes lasers? I mean, apart from the obvious usual contenders of fictional Bond villains, not-so-fictional multi-billionaire megalomaniacs, and out-there-somewhere evil scientists? Well, it transpires that I do.

Yep, while I have championed both portable and 3D printers in the past, my relations with the reliability of the at-home ink-parting paper-pushers have always ended in the Fawlty Towers-esque thrashing on the non-responsive rubbish with the branch of a tree (an ancient TV reference oddly now back in circulation). However, not all 2D printers are created equal and while I’ve always found inkjet options about as trustworthy as a promise from a politician, it seems that their toner-armed opposites don’t suffer the same temperamentality towards the task they were built for.

For a start, laser printers tend to use toner rather than ink, stuff that does not dry up even when not used for absolutely ages, whereas inkjet ink will when not in use and nozzles will clog. Also, laser printers generally offer a better quality of print, are far more efficient at churning out countless pages of print, and – vital to anyone who doesn’t like trying to work while the audio-equivalent of a house being demolished with malice aforethought a mere half-metre away happens – they’re a lot quieter too.

So, that’s settled then: inkjet printers are the work of the Devil/Loki/Ocnus and, by comparison, laser printers the wonderous creation of some unconditionally loving space wizard. But which laser printer, in
