Downing Street on Wednesday declined to commit to a Commons vote before any air strikes on Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen who have been targeting commercial vessels in the Red Sea with missile and drone attacks.
No10 refused to be drawn into whether MPs will have a say on such military action.
Defence Secretary Grant Shapps warned the Houthi rebels that Britain, and allies, would take "action needed to protect innocent lives and the global economy," with the US-led Operation Prosperity Guardian now patrolling the Red Sea.
