Birds of a feather stick together

WEBBED feet deep in snow, three geese gather together, two of them listening to the honking of the third. Titled New Year’s Resolutions, this oil on linen by Tim Allen Lawson is art dealer Jonathan Cooper’s most beloved piece—for reasons far more poignant than merely planning a fresh start in January.

Mr Lawson (b. 1963) is an American artist whose paintings appear in numerous private and public collections, not least the Smith-sonian Institute in Washington DC, the Port-land Museum of Art in Portland, Maine, and the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in Dallas, Texas (in 2008, he created the artwork for President Bush’s Christmas card).
