Painting candy stripes adds a playful feel to the room

My story

‘After having Lily, we decided to move from Leeds to be nearer to my family. This place was a repossession and some of the fixtures, like the boiler, were condemned. However, the house was a bargain for its size, and it didn’t need any major building works which was a bonus.

I knew we’d have to replace the shabby kitchen and bathroom in time, but decided to decorate the place to make it feel like home while we saved. I really wanted to give colour-drenching a go though I was nervous while we were doing it as I’ve never gone for such a bold look before. We both love it now and it gave me the confidence to be brave with other design decisions.

Patterned wallpaper in the dining room came next, and then we moved on to the bedroom, which I decorated myself during lockdown as I was pregnant with Isla, so was stuck at home. Then, after three long years, we finally began the kitchen renovation, choosing fairly neutral cabinets as I’d already fallen in love with
