“When would it be necessary to change the radio channel with my Speedlite?”

Simon Joseph, Bude

Straight from the factory, Speedlites and transmitters are set to channel 1 and the ID is 0000 to ensure units work together. However, if shooting around other photographers, you want to limit access to your flashes, so change the ID to something different from the default. As the radio system works in the same frequency as a lot of other devices, it is sometimes necessary to change channel for maximum range and reliability. A sender Speedlite or transmitter has a scan function to check the different channels and show the optimum channel to use. Remember that if you change channel, it needs to match in all the different sender and receiver units being used.
