Editor’s note
In the enchanting world of home decorating, creativity knows no bounds. Inspiration flows in from all around us and instills in us a drive to decorate, we sometimes feel that there’s a creative current flowing through the air that sparks fresh article and project ideas. In truth, designers draw inspiration from diverse sources, and often those sources merge. That explains why all of a sudden you’ll start seeing mushrooms and gnomes everywhere. Consider the phrase, “There’s nothing new under the sun,” which, in a sense, is true. Designers dig into past styles to create new looks, trending colors recirculate through the years, and we all love a good repurposing project. You can take elements of the past or different designs of today and make them your own. Does that make you a copycat? Maybe, but a copycat who knows creativity when you see it and can give it your own spin. The homeowners in this issue have all tapped into that creative energy flowing through the air and channeled it into their homes. You’ll find decorative elements fashioned in original ways throughout their rooms. In our DIY project features, our designers have reimagined basic Easter decorations into fresh farmhouse accents, flipped everyday items into surprising pieces, and assembled designer dupes of those pricey favorites. We even have copycats in this issue’s recipes: homemade versions of store-bought pantry staples. Maybe being a copycat is just embracing the creativity all around you.
