I JOINED the railways in 1973 and continue to enjoy working in a rail industry that, given recent controversial decisions on railway policy, perhaps deserves some scrutiny. The cancellation of HS2 north of Birmingham, dropping plans for ticket office closures, and no prospect of any Great British Railways legislation before the looming general election have all created industry uncertainty.
