In Our Veins Flow Ink and Fire

The fifth edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB), curated by Singaporean artist and writer Shubigi Rao, “In Our (2021–22), using salvaged stones to evoke the remains of a depopulated village in Goa, flooded in the 1980s for a reservoir. Haegue Yang’s (2022), an installation of more than 100,000 metal bells, evokes disparate heritages through ritualistic sounds. Mumbai artist Jitish Kallat’s exhibition “Covering Letter” featured his installation around a historic plea for humanity that Mahatma Gandhi sent to Adolf Hitler. Goa-based HH Art Spaces, led by Nikhil Chopra, collaborated on a performance art event “Where Do We Stand Now?” with nine performers looking at practices of recovery and healing.
