“The Threads of Destiny” at (1978), a drapery-like structure that deconstructs itself into tangles to suggest botanical forms, and a series of eight gravity-defying, felted lambswool cylindrical columns in suspension above the floor. Song Huai-Kuei’s tapestries, inspired by Zhuangzi’s classical Chinese prose, are erotic and boldly feminist. Their works echoed the postminimalist movement of the 1970s and showcased the couple’s transformation of craft techniques, materials, and processes into avant-garde sculptures that defied the boundaries between genres and continents.
