Chiang Rai 2023: The Open World

DEC 9

APR 30, 2024

The third Thailand Biennale, titled “The Open World” and led by artistic directors Rirkrit Tiravanija and Gridthiya Gaweewong, took place (2023), integrating Thai tribal textile patterns onto the facade of an old city hall. Busui Ajaw, a self-taught artist of Akha heritage, displayed acrylic paintings of human figures amid foliage, which were suspended in Baan Dam Museum’s open-air space and framed by the surrounding gardens.
