CONSTRUCTING A WRITER

I really enjoyed the article ‘Get Building’ by Ian Ayris (WM Dec). I loved the analogy Ian used and it got me reflecting upon my own writing.

It seems I have built a whole housing estate: a couple of apartment blocks, filled with poetry, a couple of cul-de-sacs of short story collections, a random scattering of tiny little bungalows and tiny little houses, a few half started mansions and even a whole mansion.

I am particularly proud of a couple of apartments, recently viewed by the submissions team at Writing Magazine and awarded a ‘highly commended’, an accolade which has been a great boost.

For architectural design, I have been very fortunate with wonderful inspiration and kind encouragement from Jenny Alexander in her workshops, from the lovely members of my writing group and from the community of writers within the pages of this magazine.
