Seeing my sister Leah, now 31, strap a stuffed backpack to her shoulders and take to the skies, exploring Asia for several months, I knew I wanted to follow in her footsteps.
I’d even spent four months at university studying abroad in Cape Town, too, so I knew I could travel alone.
So breaking the news to my mum Catherine, 61, I knew she wouldn’t be surprised.
