Looking forward to a fruitful year ahead

Gardeners can be forgiven for getting twitchy fingers when the New Year appears, and frequently garden writers such as myself are telling you to “wait!”. But, chilli peppers (especially the very hot varieties) can, and indeed should, be sown now, so there’s not a sanctimonious finger waggle in sight.

The hottest chilli varieties tend to be varieties of perennial species such as and , and frequently these can take up to 28 days to germinate – that’s a whole month!
