Starmer signals Labour would scale back £28 billion green economic plan if it busts borrowing limits

Sir Keir Starmer signalled on Thursday that Labour would scale back its flagship £28 billion green economic revolution plan if it busts borrowing limits.

His party is planning, if it wins power, to borrow £28 billion a year to invest in green jobs and industry to shift the economy away from fossil fuels in the battle against climate change.

Sir Keir and shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves have already pushed back this aim to later in the four or five-year Parliament, if Labour gets into office.
