At the Agbiz media day recently, my colleague Wandile Sihlobo presented an interesting slide. It grouped the past 150 years according to major trends from industrialisation in the late 1880s, the Depression period between World War I and World War II, the postwar rebuilding phase, and globalisation from the 1980s towards the present.
The current period follows the financial crisis in 2009 and is referred to as ‘slowbalisation’, a period where global economic growth has
