What is Ulez and how has if affected air pollution?
A report commissioned by Logika Group Air Quality Consultants has said that Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) policies achieved improvements in air quality between 2019-2022.
The Ultra Low Emission Zone is estimated to have reduced nitrous oxide emissions from traffic between 2019 and 2022 by 13,500 tonnes - and harmful road traffic particulate matter emissions were reduced by 180 tonnes across the same period.
The impact of Ulez on air quality was an improvement in comparison to the capital's aviation industry, which produces around 54 tonnnes a year. The Ulez policies are also estimated to have reduced accidental fires in London produce 67 tonnes each year.
It follows London Mayor Sadiq Khan's decision to expand Ulez to the entirety of the capital and its boroughs on August 29, which City Hall has accredited the report's findings to.
