Block size: 666 square metres. Floor size: 210 square metres. Timeline: Design 1 year; build 9 months. Roofing: PREFA aluminium standing seam roof sheeting in Patina Grey; Colorbond Klip-Lok in Windspray. External walls: Dry-pressed bricks from Austral Bricks painted Dulux Natural White, plus existing brickwork. Flooring: Portugal Cork tiles; reclaimed kauri pine floorboards; blackbutt treads. Doors and windows: Western red cedar windows and doors from Windoor. Heating and cooling: Heat & Glo 5x fireplace from Jetmaster; ceiling fans. Furniture: B&B Italia ‘Le Bambole’ sofa; Getama ‘Ring’ upholstered chairs from Great Dane Furniture; Flos ‘Tab’ floor lamp; Thonet dining chairs. External elements: Site-reclaimed sandstone flagging for garden retaining walls and bricks for external paving.

Sitting at the dining tableof one Sydney home feels like nestling into lush, leafy garden. Pull back its glazed sliding doors, and the boundary between inside and out completely melts away. It’s a Mosman residence recently transfor med by Downie North, a Sydney-based architecture studio headed up by Catherine Downie and Daniel North.
