Sandbach Engineering Company’s new Chief Engineer, Mrs Laurie Baker, proved her expertise in the new range of 38-tonne tractor units announced in January 1983. She achieved considerable weight saving by the use of extruded aluminium crossmembers attached by forged aluminium brackets of Kenworth origin. Lightweight aluminium fuel and air tanks and the availability of optional alloy wheels all played a part in achieving a low tare weight.

Cab styling was also improved and front axles were positioned further back, providing better driver access. The frontal appearance of the existing S10by popular demand when another minor facelift took place in 1995.
