ertrude Jekyll was a remarkable lady, a prolific writer, artist, photographer, woodworker, metal worker, campaigner for the vote for women and a knowledgeable horticulturist. With a flair for fine art, she joined the Kensington School of Art at age 17 and was exhibiting her paintings at the Royal Academy of Arts at only 23., who was impressed by her use of mixed borders and colour schemes and asked her to write articles for the publication.
