My biking life started in 1977 on a bright yellow Puch MV50 that cost £50. It was slower than virtually everyone else’s mopeds but I loved it. Memories of the freedom it gave me to explore the Hampshire/Surrey lanes still make me smile.

By the time I was 17 I’d spent countless hours at Motorcycle City drooling over a blue Honda Super Dream, but dad was having none of it and steered me towards four wheels. Having passed my car test and discovering girls, bikes went on the backburner, apart from some memorable pillion rides on my great mate Andy Mantell’s bikes. He was a superb rider and had a variety of bikes including a Kawasaki LTD, Suzuki GS750/850s, and then a red/white Honda CBR600F-M – what a gorgeous bike that was!

Then life took over and it wasn’t until at the age of 42 when as a surprise present
