Best prams and buggies for babies and toddlers
When you’re making your list of things to buy or borrow when you have a baby, a pram will no doubt be close to the top. It’s not only one of the items you’ll spend the most on but also one that will get the most use.
Obviously, it will transport your most precious cargo but you may also use it when you’re exercising, going on holiday or for filling with shopping (just us?).
Whether you’re looking for a pram for your new baby or something to transport a three-year-old who hates walking, the UK buggy market has it all. We recommend going to a store to try out a range of different prams and buggies. This is a great way of putting their size, manoeuvrability and weight to the test. It’s also worth asking for a demonstration as to how they are dismantled and folded down as this can really cause a headache when you’re sleep-deprived with a newborn or grappling with an energetic toddler.
What is the difference between a pram and a buggy?
A pram is for newborn babies and younger infants who need to be lying down. It will come with a newborn-suitable seat or a bassinet which can be used until your baby is around six months. Many will have adaptors for the bassinet or seat so you can switch over when your baby is ready for the next stage. Most prams will come with a seat as standard and a bassinet will need to be purchased as an extra if the seat it comes with doesn’t lie flat to 150 degrees or more. If you think your baby will be napping a lot when you’re out, you may want to make the comfiest, smoothest rides a top priority.
A buggy or stroller typically has a bucket seat which means it is only suitable for babies who are aged six months or older
