Why do we learn to fly?
There must be a fair number of compelling reasons we do it, but in the end the idea is surely to be able to get to somewhere interesting that is inconvenient to get to by land or sea.
Nobody working their way through an RPL or RPC will be thinking too hard about that, but when you embark on nav training the thought of travel must surely take root.
And then, all of a sudden, you actually have your wings. Free to go pretty much anywhere you like. And anywhere you like, in Australian terms, is a huge amount of choice!
Regarding deciding where to go, the choice is almost overwhelming. The internet is awash with websites to get your travel juices flowing, and sites dedicated to travelling by air may be of particular use. The Plan, Land and Stay Facebook pages are an obvious place to start and having a look at commercial tourism-by-air destination offerings is almost certain to be inspiring. Slightly more specialised are websites like the Sea Plane Pilots’ Association. Both Plan, Land and Stay and the SPAA have constructed overlays for Google Earth to show a huge number of places that are appropriate for a visit with land and seaplanes respectively.
