Curriculum Connections

The inspiring stories of fifty remarkable women who changed the history of BC and the Yukon by defying social norms are featured in this book. From activists and writers to scientists and Cultural Knowledge Holders, this diverse group of women includes artist Emily Carr and translator Jane Constance Cook (Ga'axsta'las).

Each woman's story, written by Haley Healey, is paired with a beautiful portrait by illustrator Kimiko Fraser. Her Courage Rises is designed for ages 12 and over and has a place on my bookshelf. Here is an excerpt from the book:
