NOT (QUITE) THE 'MASTER SHOT' COMMENT

Over the past 30 years or so, we’ve lost most of the great steam era photographers. Only a handful of those who were very young when they started photographing steam are still with us. I met many, maybe even most, of them during my time looking after the Ian Allan library – particularly in the 1980s. Most were ‘old school’ and still taking black and white prints. Fast forward to 1992 and my brought me into contact with a whole new flock of steam ‘paparazzi’.
