THE HONEST HEAVYWEIGHT

“MAYBE I’ll get my shot at Apollo Creed,” jokes 33-year-old Philadelphia heavyweight Joey Dawejko.

One thing Dawejko would have in common with Rocky Balboa is that he would enter the ring as a ‘snow white underdog’, no matter who was wearing the belts in the opposite corner.

In an age where fighters and those around them are continuously trying to heighten their status, largely through outlandish claims and actions, Dawejko is refreshingly candid about his place in the sport. He boxes for the love of it and to please his fans. Don’t expect Dawejko’s manager Russell Peltz to give his man a false buildup either. He is a realist, just like his fighter.

Dawejko turned pro in 2009 and has compiled a 27-10-4 (14) record, with only three defeats coming inside the distance.
