CHRISTMAS is around the corner – but did you know traditions on this special day differ from one place to another? Here are some of the most unique and interesting ways people celebrate Christmas.

CHRISTMAS IN SPACE

Christmas Day is a holiday – even 400 kilometres above the Earth. And astronauts and cosmonauts who happen to be in space during the festive season have found their own special ways to observe the occasion.

The first time Christmas was celebrated in space was in 1968 when the Apollo 8 crew orbited the moon between 21 and 27 December. Astronauts Frank Borman, James Lovell and William Anders marked the historical event by taking turns reading from the Book of Genesis in the Bible on Christmas Eve in a live broadcast. About one billion people in 64 countries tuned in to listen to them.
