Dear Freddie,

HAPPY New Year. I gather there has been a fall of snow with you? I have to say, for all its inconvenience, I love snow and the pristine whiteness of a magically altered landscape. There is nothing better than soft, fresh snow for revealing the mystery of the daily and nightly activity of wildlife, and it provides a marvellous opportunity to learn something of their hitherto unseen movements.
