STAR SALES

1. Tastemaker’s Farewell

Estimate £20,000-£40,000 Sold £182,000

A three-day auction mounted by Dreweatts last October offered the private collection of antiques dealer and interior decorator Robert Kime, and became a ‘white glove’ sale. In addition, the final total smashed pre-sale predictions, making' £9.6m against a cautious estimate of £1.5m. Robert Kime (1946-2022) was a leading design figure of his generation and his projects included redecorating Clarence House and Highgrove for King Charles III, as well as making over properties for an array of celebrities. Dating to 1838, the striking picture took pride of place in the entrance hall of Robert’s London home in Warwick Square, and was bought by an American collector.
