For many, attempting to revive a forgotten craft would be a daunting task, especially when there is little prospect of making it commercially viable. For John Williamson, however, learning how to make traditional Devon stave baskets felt like a natural progression in his career as a greenwood worker. ‘There is a similar language and technique that flows through working with unseasoned wood, so making stave baskets seemed an obvious thing for me to try,’ he says.
