Sledding the Way It Was Meant to Be

A used candle slid across the metal runners of an American Flyer sled. The paraffin white slivers coated the steel arches, leaving a slippery base. When in contact with cold, packed snow, the sled’s performance was taken to the next level: super fast!

Dad’s chosen sledding hill … was straight and had a good slope for speed… his sled was extremely heavy.

I was ready to take this wooden, red-striped demon to one of my sledding favorites—Elephant Hill.
