BIT FITTING - ANGELA RUDRUM says…
Time for a change of bit?
Q My horse has been in the same bit for the last three years, and I use it for flatwork, jumping and hacking. I recently heard that riders shouldn't use the same bit for more than 6-12 months or for every discipline. Is this true? Jessica Fisher, Flampshire
Angela says: As long as the bit works well and your horse is comfortable there is absolutely no reason to change it. Changing the bit too often can confuse some horses as the feeling the bit gives in their mouth will be different, so it can take some time for them to settle and interpret what your rein aids really mean.
