THE HORSE HAS a very complex digestive tract that can be easily upset in many ways. Most of the time a horse passing faeces is a sign of good gastrointestinal health, but when it is too frequent and irregular, and the faeces are of a watery consistency and the volume is large, this could be a sign that there is asignificant problem.

Diarrhoea is common in horses of all ages, but determining the cause can often be difficult despite an array of tests now available. In excess of 70% of diarrhoea cases don't have a definitive diagnosis. This may be because the factors that are causing it may not be present at the time the horse is examined or, rather than infectious agents and their associated toxins being the cause,
