A Pressing Moment

As with sewing and dressmaking, certain tools are required to aid your pressing techniques. Many of these items are readily available from larger fabric and haberdashery outlets, while other tools can be easily made.

Seams and brown paper: To prevent impressions of seam allowances, darts, pocket bags and facings on the right side of a garment always press these areas from the wrong side with a layer of brown paper tucked underneath the seam allowances or placed between the fabric layers for the pockets and facings, then cover with a pressing cloth.
