EVOKING A DISTANT DECADE

For a trio of 20-somethings who formed 50 years after the end of the ‘60s, the vintage sound and aesthetic of Large Mirage is remarkably reminiscent of this long-gone era in rock. Emerging from the Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury regions before settling in Sydney, the group consists of lead guitaristvocalist-chief songwriter Kolya Chan, renowned for his soaring, rapid-fire solos, along with agile bassistvocalist Blake Rochester, and their powerful drummer Daniel Croft.

Large Mirage first unveiled their strong retro sound in late 2020 in the Super 8 music video for their debut single, ’Going Insane’, filmed in the middle of a large paddock in Katoomba. For the shoot, Large Mirage had to take two amp stacks and a drum kit across the grassy, marshy ground Before flying overseas, Chan and Rochester took the necks off their Fender guitars to pack their axes in suitcases.
