What did Wallace do while he served in the RFC?

Q My grandfather, Wallace Edgar Searle, born 1887 on the Isle of Wight, enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) in Hounslow in October 1915, service number 12582.

In 1918, I know he travelled across France and Italy then on to Alexandria and Ramleh in Egypt, where he served as a rigger until the end of the war.
