Australia is rife with duopolies and monopolies. Woolworths and Coles, Bunnings and Mitre 10, Pizza Hut and Dominoes, Dan Murphy's and Liquorland, Kmart and Target. It's annoying and we complain about a lack of choice but no one else has the balls (or the bank account) to shake things up (well maybe Aldi).
It used to be the case in the dirtbike world too, until recently. KTM were the first with a modern 350cc four-stroke now five manufacturers make a bike in that capacity! Same goes for the adventure bike world. After the unprecedented success of the Long Way Down and Long Way Round, featuring BMW's R 1200 GS Adventure, a plethora of other 1200cc adventure machines have hit the market and now we have six different 1200cc plus adventure bikes. This coincides with a boom in the adventure bike segment which is why I've been surprised no manufacturer has been willing to tackle the mid-capacity adventure bike market, except Royal Enfield.
