Pushing my oar into the water, I heard the waves slosh.
Out in the middle of the Atlantic, this was no ordinary Christmas Day.
Instead of a huge festive feast, I ate dehydrated turkey.
With no TV and music videos to watch, we made do singing our own carols.
And my festive hat wasn’t with a Buck’s Fizz – I had a boat to row.
In fact, I was in the middle of taking on the The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge – rowing 3,000 miles from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua.
With three other women – my sister Pip, Lebby and Jo – we were raising money for The Felix Fund, Women in Sport and Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice. A group of mums, it made sense to support a children’s charity.
And this was not a typical Christmas for me.
Usually, you’d find me with my family – my
