‘We’re learning the importance of body weight and working out our body mass index,’ she said.

Then, she explained that BMI uses height and weight to work out if you are at a healthy weight overall.

Immediately, terror gripped me.

There was absolutely no way was I standing on those scales in front of everyone.

After all, I didn’t need a number to tell me what I already knew.

Aged 10, 9st and wearing an adult size 10, I knew I was a ‘big’ kid.
