Sandra Bullock and Ryan Gosling

After co-starring in the 2002 thriller Murder by Numbers, Bullock, 59, and Gosling, 43, looked cosy while posing on the red carpet but played coy with their relationship status. Finally, when asked by Cosmopolitan magazine if they were “just friends”, Bullock came clean. “If you were to add the word ‘just’, it would probably be a bit of a lie,” she answered with a laugh. “So, I’d say we’re friends.”

Following their split in 2003, Gosling later reflected that fame was a factor. “When both people are in show business, it’s too much show business,” he told in 2011. “It takes all of the light, so nothing else can grow.”
