Death Love Art

Shoalhaven Regional Gallery 9 December 2023 to 3 February 2024

New South Wales

Death Love Art takes you on a journey of cultural and historical acts of mourning and remembering, exploring how artists respond to the emotional devastation of love halted by death. From ancient rituals to modern-day customs, from the haunting beauty of first century BC Egyptian funerary portraits to Ned Kelly’s death mask and contemporary art in a variety of mediums, this exhibition addresses concepts of grief, commemoration, memorialisation, reclamation, and celebration of life, illuminating the complexity of human emotions. In all, the works are revealing, contemplative, inspirational.

Whereabouts: Printmakers Respond

Art Gallery of Ballarat Until 4 February 2024

Victoria

Curated by printmaker Rona Green, Whereabouts: Printmakers Respond brings together a cross-section of fifty-six emerging and established artists from across Victoria (including Green) who explore connections to place, country, and home. Each artist has crafted new work, utilising their chosen printmaking techniques while delving into their own personal response to the theme of ‘whereabouts’, which refers to “the place where someone or something is.”

The exhibition showcases an array of print media, encompassing a wide range of styles from linocut to screen printing and photopolymer work.
