ames Vincent Mallamici was born on Feb. 14, 1893 in Reggio Calabria, a picturesque seaside community on the Strait of Messina between the western tip of Italy and Sicily. In 1911, at the age of 18, he left his parent’s home, boarded the Italian passenger liner , and arrived at the port of New York.
